This bachelor's thesis evaluates selected food products presented through nutrition and marketing claims as suitable or more suitable for individuals with diabetes mellitus. The aim of the thesis was to assess their suitability on the basis of nutritional composition and, at the same time, to determine how patients with diabetes interpret these claims when choosing foods. The practical part included a nutritional analysis of 24 products and a questionnaire survey conducted among patients attending a diabetology outpatient clinic. The results showed that most of the analyzed products were evaluated as less suitable and that the claim displayed on the packaging alone is not a sufficient indicator of a product's suitability for a diabetic diet. At the same time, the findings suggest that interpreting nutritional information and understanding the meaning of individual claims may be difficult for patients. The thesis highlights the importance of patient education in reading food labels and critically evaluating nutrition claims. The thesis also includes a proposal for educational material aimed at supporting more practical food choices in individuals with diabetes mellitus.
