Queer a levicová solidarita a její zobrazení ve snímku Pride

Abstract

This thesis deals with the depiction of queer and left-wing solidarity in the film Pride (2014), based on real events. Its aim is to outline how the film depicts obstacles facing members of the Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM) support group and the mining community, which they decided to support during the 1984-85 miners' strike. Methods used include qualitative content analysis and qualitative coding. Presented firstly is an overview of the miners' strike and LGSM's history, their role at the intersection of the British left-wing and LGBTQ+ activism, and the development of LGBTQ+ rights from the 1980s to today. The main analysis considers specific obstacles and resistance faced by LGSM and the miners depicted in the film. Initial focus is on the opposition LGSM encountered in its efforts to collaborate with the miners, primarily from the wider LGBTQ+ community. Examined next are the challenges LGSM faced as a result of their activities as an openly queer group. Finally, arguments for the miners' resistance and their refusal to accept help from LGSM are presented. The thesis concludes that the film takes the challenges and opposition faced by LGSM and the miners largely seriously, portraying them as conquerable without minimising them. Tato práce se zabývá vyobrazením queer a levicové solidarity ve snímku Pride (2014) založeného na reálných historických událostech. Jejím cílem je přiblížit, jak tento film zobrazuje překážky, se kterými se setkali členové podpůrné skupiny Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM) a hornická komunita, kterou se LGSM rozhodlo podpořit při její stávce v letech 1984-85. Využity byly metody kvalitativní obsahové analýzy filmu a kvalitativního kódování. Práce nejprve představuje události výše zmíněné stávky horníků, skupinu LGSM a její roli na pomezí britského levicového a LGBTQ+ aktivismu a vývoj LGBTQ+ práv od 80. let dodnes. Dále pak obsahuje analýzu konkrétních překážek a odporu, se kterými se ve filmu LGSM a horníci setkali. Důraz je kladen na nejprve na odpor, na který LGSM narazilo při snaze navázat spolupráci s horníky, především ze strany širší LGBTQ+ komunity. Následně se pak zaměřuje na problémy, které vznikly jako důsledek jejich aktivity jako otevřeně queer skupiny. Nakonec se zabývá argumenty pro odpor ze strany horníků a pro jejich odmítnutí pomoci od LGSM. Práce dochází k závěru, že film překážky a odpor, se kterými se LGSM a horníci potýkali, bere z velké části vážně a zobrazuje je jako překonatelné, aniž by je zlehčoval.
