Abstract

Analysis of changes in the age structure of the populations in Northern Europe using standard and alternative indicators Abstract: The aim of this thesis is to analyze the development of the age structure of the populations in Northern Europe, specifically the Nordic and Baltic countries, over the period from 1960 to 2023. The study utilizes both standard retrospective indicators as well as their equivalents calculated using an alternative prospective approach based on the number of years remaining in the life expectancy of the population. Both types of indicators are also used to describe the current situation in NUTS 2 regions of interest. The findings showed that there are significant differences between the two approaches in describing the course of demographic aging, with the levels of prospective indicators rising slower than those of the traditional indicators, or not at all. Moreover, these differences increase over time. It was also confirmed that population trends in the Baltic states exhibit similar characteristics and differ significantly from those observed in the Nordic countries. Analýza změn ve věkové struktuře obyvatelstva v Severní Evropě za využití standardních i alternativních ukazatelů Abstrakt: Tato práce si klade za cíl analyzovat vývoj věkové struktury obyvatelstva v regionu Severní Evropy, tedy severských a pobaltských států, a to v období vymezeném lety 1960 a 2023. V práci jsou využívány jak standardní retrospektivní ukazatele, tak také jejich ekvivalenty počítané pomocí alternativního prospektivního přístupu založeného na počtu let, které osobám v populaci zbývají k prožití. Dále je pomocí obou typů ukazatelů popsána také současná situace v regionech NUTS 2 v rámci sledovaných států. Z výzkumu vyplynulo, že mezi oběma hodnocenými přístupy existují značné rozdíly při popisu průběhu demografického stárnutí, kdy úrovně prospektivních ukazatelů narůstají pomaleji než u těch klasických, či dokonce vůbec. Tyto rozdíly se navíc v čase postupně zvyšují. Dále bylo potvrzeno, že populační trendy v pobaltských státech vykazují podobné rysy a značně se odlišují od těch pozorovaných v severských státech.
