This thesis focuses on the use of virtual reality (VR) to address intrusive thoughts in individuals with anxiety symptoms. The aim was to evaluate and compare the feasibility and acceptability of two psychotherapeutic techniques, worry time and positive affirmations, implemented in VR via the Dark Room application, while also assessing their immediate effect on state anxiety. The research was conducted using a within-subjects design with a sample of 33 participants. Changes in state anxiety, subjectively induced anxiety, usability, cybersickness, and presence in the virtual environment were measured. The results showed that both techniques were well received by users and exhibited an acceptable level of cybersickness, with no statistically significant differences between them. The overall level of presence was low in both conditions; however, the general presence and spatial presence subscales showed high levels of presence. In terms of their effect on anxiety, the techniques differed: positive affirmations led to a statistically significant reduction in state anxiety, whereas worry time led to an increase in state anxiety, consistent with its exposure-based nature. The results suggest that virtual reality may be a suitable tool for practicing techniques for addressing intrusive thoughts, and the...
