Abstract

This bachelor thesis presents the Czech translation of selected parts of Drugs, Power, and Politics: Narco Wars, Big Pharma, and the Subversion of Democracy, which deals with the use of drugs in the United States, and the long-standing War on Drugs. The first part of the thesis includes an original translation of the first chapter Drugs: The Historical Matrix. The second part consists of a commentary of the translation process, focusing on the analysis of the original publication, and describing translation techniques, problematic parts, and translation shifts. Tato bakalářská práce předkládá český překlad vybraných částí publikace Drugs, Power, and Politics: Narco Wars, Big Pharma, and the Subversion of Democracy, která se zabývá užíváním drog a léčiv ve Spojených státech a dlouhotrvající válkou proti drogám. První část této práce uvádí vlastní překlad první kapitoly Drugs: The Historical Matrix. Druhou část tvoří překladatelský komentář, jehož součástí je překladatelská analýza výchozího textu a popis zvolených překladatelských metod, překladatelských problémů a překladatelských posunů.
