Překlad části románu Toni Morrisonové Sula s odbornou studií o autorce, stylu románu a překladatelských problémech

Abstract

This thesis consists of two parts. The first part presents a translation of two chapters of the novel Sula (1973) written by Toni Morrison, an African American author. The second part includes the author's summarized biography and a list of her works. It also focuses on the critical reception of her novels in the Czech Republic and the key themes and stylistic devices she uses. The thesis then shifts its focus to Sula, providing an analysis of the text as the basis for a commentary. The commentary discusses the main translation problems, including identifying extended metaphors and working with them, word play, and (African) American cultural references.

Tato diplomová práce se skládá ze dvou částí. První z nich spočívá v překladu dvou kapitol románu afroamerické spisovatelky Toni Morrisonové Sula (1973). Druhou část tvoří stručný životopis autorky s ohledem na její další tvorbu, recepci jejího díla v České republice a tematické i stylistické znaky jejích románů. Po nich následuje kapitola věnovaná samotnému románu Sula doprovázená analýzou textu, na niž navazuje překladatelský komentář zabývající se klíčovými překladatelskými problémy, jako je identifikace a zachování rozvinutých metafor, hra s jazykem či (afro)americké reálie.
