Nerdi jako zachránci městečka Hawkins: Emancipace fanouškovství v seriálu Stranger Things

Abstract

This master's thesis examines the representation of fandom and nerd identity in the series Stranger Things (2016-2025) and analyzes its transformation in relation to stereotypes described by Henry Jenkins in his classic work Textual Poachers. The theoretical section maps the evolution of fan identity in both academic and media discourse, drawing on key studies by authors such as Henry Jenkins, Matt Hills, John Fiske, and other prominent figures in fan studies. The thesis aims to determine how Stranger Things redefines the traditional image of fans and to what extent its representation reflects a shift from negative outsider stereotypes to more complex and positively perceived characters. The results show that the series not only thematizes fandom as an integral part of characters' personal identities but also significantly contributes to its broader cultural redefinition.

Diplomová práce se věnuje reprezentaci fanouškovství a nerdovské identity v seriálu Stranger Things (2016-2025) a analyzuje její proměnu ve vztahu ke stereotypům, které v souvislosti s fanoušky popsal Henry Jenkins v klasickém díle Textual Poachers. V teoretické části mapuje vývoj fanouškovské identity v akademickém i mediálním diskurzu, přičemž vychází z klíčových studií autorů jako Henry Jenkins, Matt Hills, John Fiske a dalších významných představitelů fan studies. Práce si klade za cíl zjistit, jak Stranger Things redefinuje tradiční obraz fanouška a nakolik se v jeho reprezentaci odráží posun od negativních stereotypů outsiderů ke komplexnějším a pozitivněji vnímaným postavám. Výsledky ukazují, že seriál nejen tematizuje fanouškovství jako nedílnou součást osobní identity postav, ale také významně přispívá k jeho širší kulturní rehabilitaci.
