Abstract

The peak performance age of football players in the Premier League between seasons 2017/18 and 2023/24 Abstract This bachelor thesis examines the age at which football players in the Premier League reach their peak performance and analyses whether this peak age differs by playing position and nationality. The research employs three methods: age structures to analyse the distribution of the player population, cohort life tables to determine career length and the probability of remaining in the league, and a custom performance index constructed from standardised, position-specific statistics. The results indicate that the age structure of the Premier League has shifted towards younger players, that career duration varies substantially across positions, and that peak performance age is not uniform across playing roles. Goalkeepers and defenders reach their peak later than midfielders, whose performance remains relatively stable, while forwards exhibit a combination of early and late peaks shaped by strong selection effects. Moreover, foreign players tend to reach peak performance at a later age compared to domestic players. Věk sportovního vrcholu fotbalistů v Premier League mezi sezónami 2017/18 až 2023/24 Abstrakt Tato bakalářská práce zkoumá věk, ve kterém fotbalisté působící v Premier League dosahují vrcholu své výkonnosti, a analyzuje, zda se tento věk liší podle herní pozice a národnosti. Výzkum využívá tři metody: věkové struktury pro analýzu rozložení hráčské populace, kohortní tabulky života pro určení délky setrvání v soutěži a tzv. výkonnostní index založený na standardizovaných pozičně specifických statistikách. Výsledky ukazují, že věková struktura Premier League se posouvá směrem k mladším hráčům, délka kariéry se významně liší mezi pozicemi a věk vrcholné výkonnosti není jednotný napříč herními rolemi. Brankáři a obránci dosahují vrcholu později než záložníci, u nichž je výkonnost stabilní, zatímco u útočníků je patrná kombinace raného i pozdního vrcholu ovlivněná selekčním efektem. Zahraniční hráči dosahují maximální výkonnosti v pozdějším věku než hráči domácí. Práce tak přispívá k porozumění věkovým a kariérním vzorcům v profesionálním fotbale a ukazuje využitelnost demografických metod v oblasti sportovní analytiky.
