Americké sběratelky a jejich podíl na popularizaci evropské avantgardy v USA

Abstract

Researching art from a gender perspective is a relatively current topic. While attention is often focused on female artists themselves, I would like to focus my bachelor's thesis on female collectors. This thesis will examine the role of selected American female collectors (Gertrude Stein, Peggy Guggenheim, the Cone sisters, and Lily Bliss) in popularizing the European avant-garde in the United States in the first half of the 20th century. It will explore the impact their activities had on the American and international art scene. The thesis will take into account their life stories, motivations, and collecting practices, as well as their influence on the acceptance of avant-garde artists by the American lay and professional public or the integration of their works into leading museum collections in the United States. Výzkum umění z genderového hlediska je poměrně aktuálním tématem. Jestliže se pozornost často soustředí na umělkyně samotné, ráda bych se ve své bakalářské práci soustředila na ženy sběratelky. Tato práce se bude zabývat rolí vybraných amerických sběratelek (Gertrude Stein, Peggy Guggenheim, sestry Cone a Lily Bliss) při popularizaci evropské avantgardy v USA v první polovině 20. století. Prozkoumá, jaký dopad měly jejich aktivity na americkou a mezinárodní uměleckou scénu. Práce při tom zohlední jejich životní osudy, motivace a sběratelské praktiky, stejně jako jejich vliv na akceptaci avantgardních umělců americkou laickou i odbornou veřejností nebo integraci jejich děl do předních muzejních sbírek ve Spojených státech.
