Ethical Aspects of Health and Social Care for Children with Inherited Metabolic Disorders The thesis deals with ethical issues of health and social care for children with inherited metabolic disorders. After a short overview of bioethics, biomedical principles and the main ethical theories, the issues of inherited metabolic disorders are presented, including their classification, clinical manifestations, diagnostics and treatment options. The health and social needs of these children and their families are described, and health and social care is mapped at the national, European and global levels. The role of patient organizations, as well as the demands for care coordination and a comprehensive approach to these diseases, are also mentioned. The final part of the thesis is devoted to a reflection on selected ethical issues, including the participation of children in research and experimental treatment, which brings hope but also a risk of unknown side effects and possible consequences, the issue of justice and distribution of resources, where the right to health care clashes with the limited resources of the system, the question of genetic counseling and reproductive choices, the issue of funding experimental treatment through crowdfunding, and the influence of media coverage of individual cases...
