Nad oblaky: Srovnání mrakodrapů Sovětského svazu a Spojených států amerických v období studené války

Abstract

My undergraduate thesis is about the race to build skyscrapers between the United States and the USSR. The thesis will focus on the period leading up to the Cold War and the race itself between 1945 and 1989. In order to better understand the formation of a unique style in the Soviet Union and America, the major centres of skyscraper construction in the early twentieth century will be examined. The engineering and architectural concepts and techniques used to build skyscrapers will also be touched upon. The paper presents the factors, decisions, circumstances and architects that influenced the aesthetic preferences of both sides. Examples of the interaction between the two sides and the very different approaches to high-rise architecture are also presented.

Bakalářská práce se zabývá soutěží ve stavbě mrakodrapů mezi Spojenými státy a Sovětským svazem. Práce se zaměřuje na období předcházející studené válce a léta 1945- 1989. Pro lepší pochopení vzniku stylu v Sovětském svazu a Spojených státech budou zkoumána hlavní centra výstavby mrakodrapů na počátku dvacátého století. Dotkneme se také inženýrských a architektonických koncepcí a technik používaných při stavbě mrakodrapů. Představeny jsou faktory výstavby, okolnosti vzniku staveb a architekti, kteří ovlivnili estetické preference obou stran. Uvedeny jsou rovněž příklady vzájemného působení i velmi odlišných přístupů k výškové architektuře.
