The Evolution of Ideological State Apparatuses in Ecuador 's Democratic System

Abstract

This thesis employs the Althusserian method of the understanding of the Ideological State Apparatuses to construct a unique theory aiming to explain the current governability crisis as a derivative process of the centralization of power, establishing a direct link between the economic base and the superstructure. The analysis consist of 3 layers, first layer deals with the economic situation of Ecuador and how this situation is tied to its condition as periphery, the second layer presents the theory of the cyclical evolution of the ideological state apparatuses under late capitalism, a dialectical attempt to discover the central cause of the problematic. The third layer deals with temporality, specifically how the situation has transformed with the arrival of Late Capitalism. Each layer covers a different goal, layer 1 depicts the global situation, layer 2 presents the methodological analysis, layer 3 uses the methodology explained and layer 2 and applies it to a historical analysis of recent events. Finally a concluding section would analyze the potential limitations of the analysis, opening the ground for further discussion.
