Ideologická funkcia hudby v Severnej Kórei: Skupina Pochonbo Electronic Ensemble v období vlády Kim Čǒngila

Abstract

This bachelor's thesis focuses on the analysis of official music in the DPRK, which has played a significant role since the country's founding in shaping collective identity and reinforcing the cult of personality around the leader. Specifically, it examines the repertoire of the Pochonbo Electronic Ensemble, which during Kim Jong-il's rule served as the main platform for disseminating state ideology through popular music. The study combines qualitative and quantitative methods: it verifies thematic categories in song lyrics, analyzes the hierarchy of composers and singers based on the number of released solo albums, and conducts a corpus analysis of 296 songs (1994-2011) to identify the most frequent nouns and their collocational patterns. The results reveal how ideological motifs and propaganda messages are linguistically and figuratively constructed, reflecting the cultural and political context of the DPRK under Kim Jong-il's leadership. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the relationship between art and power in authoritarian regimes and enriches knowledge in Korean studies, political propaganda, and corpus linguistics. Táto bakalárska práca sa venuje analýze oficiálnej hudby v KĽDR, ktorá od vzniku štátu zohráva významnú úlohu pri formovaní kolektívnej identity a upevňovaní kultu osobnosti vodcu. Konkrétne skúma repertoár skupiny Pochonbo Electronic Ensemble, ktorá počas vlády Kim Čǒngila predstavovala hlavnú platformu šírenia štátnych ideí prostredníctvom populárnej hudby. Práca kombinuje kvalitatívne a kvantitatívne metódy: overuje tematické kategórie v textoch piesní, analyzuje hierarchiu skladateľov a spevákov podľa počtu vydaných sólových albumov a vykonáva korpusovú analýzu 296 piesní (1994-2011) za účelom identifikácie najfrekventovanejších podstatných mien a ich kolokačných väzieb. Výsledky ukazujú, ako sú ideologické motívy a propagandistické posolstvá jazykovo a obrazne konštruované a zároveň reflektujú kultúrno-politický rámec KĽDR v období vlády Kim Čǒngila. Táto štúdia prispieva k hlbšiemu pochopeniu vzťahu medzi umením a mocou v autoritárskych režimoch a obohacuje poznanie v oblasti kórejských štúdií, politickej propagandy a korpusovej lingvistiky.
