Dynamika vybraných přírodních motivů ve Vergiliově Aeneidě

Abstract

The aim of this thesis is to analyze selected natural motifs in Virgil's epic, the Aeneid. Similar to other ancient epics, the Aeneid contains many passages describing nature. This is a theme that is fairly well studied today, especially within the framework of so-called ecocritical textual analysis. However, the goal of this work is not to examine these motifs as such, but rather their role in the narrative and in the structure of the text. In other words, the focus is primarily on the relationship between natural motifs and selected moments in the plot or characterizations of the epic's figures. Various character traits of the figures are often introduced or deepened through their interaction with the surrounding nature. Likewise, significant moments in the text (the fall of Troy, the landing on the shores of Carthage in the first book of the epic, etc.) are emphasized or influenced by natural motifs. The methodological basis is literary structuralism.

Cílem práce je rozbor vybraných přírodních motivů ve Vergilově eposu Aeneis. Podobně jako v ostatních antických eposech, obsahuje i Aeneis mnoho pasáží popisujících přírodu. Jde o téma, které je dnes poměrně studované, především v rámci tzv. ekokritické analýzy textu. Cílem v této práci však není sledovat tyto motivy jako takové, ale jejich roli ve vyprávění a ve struktuře textu. Tedy jde primárně o vztah mezi přírodními motivy a vybranými okamžiky děje nebo charakterizace postav eposu. Různé charakterové vlastnosti postav jsou totiž často uvedeny anebo prohloubeny skrze jejich interakci s okolní přírodou. Stejně tak jsou významné okamžiky textu (pád Tróji, vylodění na březích Kartága v první knize eposu, atd.) zdůrazněny nebo ovlivněny přírodními motivy. Metodologickým východiskem je literárněvědný strukturalismus.
