Témata v povídkové sbírce Horacia Quirogy: Povídky o lásce, šílenství a smrti

Abstract

(anglicky) The thesis focuses on a thematic analysis of one of the most remarkable books of short stories by Horacio Quiroga - Tales of Love, Madness and Death (Cuentos de amor de locura y de muerte). The aim of the thesis is to analyze the four main themes of the collection - love, madness, death and nature - based on their setting in the context of the author's life and the literary background of Hispanic American modernism and naturalism. The work touches on the author's personal tragedies, philosophy, and aesthetic experiences, as well as the influence of E.A. Poe's theory on the style and structure of the content of his stories. The introductory chapters are devoted to the historical and literary situation of the early 20th century, when modernism was on the wane in Hispanic America. Tales of Love, Madness, and Death falls within the period of transition from modernism to the avant-garde and regionalism, and foreshadows many trends in the short story genre in Hispanic America; subsequently, Borges, Cortázar, and García Márquez, for example, have addressed it. European influences are important in this period, but so are Latin American features, such as the notion of nature as an autonomous and uncontrollable force. (česky) Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na tematickou analýzu jedné z nejpozoruhodnějších knih povídek Horacia Quirogy - Povídky o lásce, šílenství a smrti (Cuentos de amor de locura y de muerte). Cílem práce je rozbor čtyř hlavních témat sbírky - lásky, šílenství, smrti a přírody - založený na jejich zasazení do kontextu autorova života a literárního pozadí hispanoamerického modernismu a naturalismu. Práce se dotýká osobních tragédií, filozofie a estetických zkušeností autora, stejně jako vlivu teorie E.A. Poea na styl a strukturu obsahu jeho příběhů. Úvodní kapitoly jsou věnovány historické a literární situaci počátku 20. století, kdy modernismus v Hispánské Americe ustupuje. Povídky o lásce, šílenství a smrti spadají do období přechodu od modernismu k avantgardě a regionalismu a předznamenávají mnohé trendy žánru povídky v Hispánské Americe; následně se mu venovali například Borges, Cortázar či García Márquez. V tomto období jsou důležité evropské vlivy, ale také latinskoamerické rysy, například pojetí přírody jako autonomní a nekontrolovatelné síly. Následuje kapitola o Quirogově životě, o tom, jak osudové údery v jeho životě i prostředí kde žil, přímo ovlivnili jeho příběhy.
