Analýza konceptu superhrdinské transformace ženských komiksových hrdinek na příkladu komiksu W.I.T.CH.

Abstract

This thesis focuses on the representation of female superheroes in the comic series W.I.T.C.H., a popular Italian children's series published between 2001 and 2012 not only in Italy, but also in numerous other countries. The theoretical part first briefly defines the concept of comics and their position within popular culture. It then introduces key terms related to the superhero genre and outlines the historical development of female superhero representation in comics. The theoretical section also includes an introduction to Japanese shōjo manga and the concept of the magical girl. The conclusion of the theoretical part addresses the construction of girls' images in the media, while the final chapter explores the phenomenon of visual representation of female bodies during superhero transformation. The analytical section applies a qualitative approach to a specific research sample and interprets both visual and narrative aspects of the selected comic. The aim of this thesis is to examine how the heroines of the W.I.T.C.H. series are depicted before and after their superhero transformation. The analysis focuses particularly on elements such as costumes, body proportions, and facial expressions, which may play a role in the processes of sexualization and objectification.

Tato diplomová práce se zaměřuje na reprezentaci ženských superhrdinek v komiksu W.I.T.C.H., populární italské dětské sérii, která vycházela v letech 2001-2012 nejen v Itálii, ale také v řadě dalších zemí. V teoretické části je nejprve stručně vymezen pojem komiks a jeho postavení v rámci populární kultury. Následně jsou představeny pojmy spojené se superhrdinským žánrem a je nastíněn historický vývoj zobrazování ženských superhrdinek v komiksu. Součástí teoretické části je rovněž představení japonské shōjo mangy a konceptu magical girl. Závěr teoretické části práce se věnuje konstrukci obrazu dívek v médiích, přičemž poslední kapitola rozpracovává fenomén vizuální reprezentace ženských těl během superhrdinské transformace. Analytická část aplikuje kvalitativní přístup na konkrétní výzkumný vzorek a interpretuje vizuální i narativní aspekty zvoleného komiksu. Cílem této diplomové práce je zjistit, jakým způsobem jsou hrdinky série W.I.T.C.H. zobrazovány před a po superhrdinské transformaci. Analýza se soustředí především na prvky jako jsou kostýmy, tělesné proporce a mimika, které mohou sehrát roli v procesu sexualizace a objektifikace.
