Moderní doba si žádá moderní oděv: Áo Lemur jako nástroj modernizace Vietnamu

Abstract

The thesis discusses the modernization of Vietnam at the beginning of the last century, focusing on women's clothing. The thesis aims to introduce the efforts of the Vietnamese designer Lemur, who created his own version of a national costume for women (áo Lemur). Although he, and his supporters, promoted the resulting work as a symbol of a traditional Vietnamese culture, in reality the artist designed a costume combining French and Chinese influences. This effort fits into the discussions about the "new woman", a Vietnamese woman that is both modern, but at the same time a bearer of traditions. This thesis uses the historical and biographical methods. Methods of everyday history, political history, fashion history and, last but not least, gender history, have also been used.

Práce pojednává o modernizaci Vietnamu na začátku minulého století, se zaměřením na ženské oblečení. Cílem práce je představit snahy vietnamského návrháře Lemura, jenž vytvořil svou vlastní verzi národního kostýmu pro ženy (áo Lemur). Přestože on sám, a jeho zastánci, propagovali výsledné dílo jako symbol vietnamské tradiční kultury, v realitě umělec navrhl kostým kombinující francouzské a čínské vlivy. Toto usilí zapadá do kontextu diskuzí o "nové ženě", tedy Vietnamce, která je jednak moderní, ale zároveň i nositelkou tradic. V práci je použita metoda historická a biografická. Dále je využita metody dějin každodennosti, politických dějin, dějin módy a v neposlední řadě také metody gender history.
