- Diploma thesis Theme: Voters' perceptions of negative campaigning, using the example of the Senate elections. Author: Michal Čermák This thesis focuses on researching the influence of negative political campaigns on voters. Specifically, it aims to determine how voters perceive negative campaigns, using the 2024 Senate elections in Constituency No. 38 as an example. To this end, the thesis identified the types of negative campaign strategy that voters consider unethical, and how these strategies alter the perception of the candidate who employed them. The thesis also examined differences in ethical perception based on age, level of education and gender. Finally, the thesis investigated whether the ethics of a negative campaign are perceived differently depending on whether they are used by a real politician or an anonymous candidate. A questionnaire survey was used as the research method, containing six practical examples of social media posts using negative campaigning. Specifically, three types of negative campaign strategy (personal attacks, attacks on the opponent's political stance and fear-mongering) were depicted in two tones (more moderate and more aggressive). Respondents evaluated the ethics of each post and how it changed their opinion of the candidate who published it. The...
