Faktory ovlivňující postoje a úspěšnost studentů při výuce statistiky: příklad kurzu Statistika pro geografy

Abstract

The curricula of many undergraduate programs include a course in statistics. Many students who are not directly involved in mathematics do not understand why they should take this course. Most of the time, they find it very difficult and unnecessary considering the study program they are studying (and what they would like to do for a living). For some of them, it's just a jumble of formulas they have to learn to complete the course. Others are able to work with formulas, but they do not see "what the formulas mean". A minimum of non-mathematical students see the benefits of statistics and understand its basic principles. The attitudes of students towards statistics courses and their inclusion in teaching at the university are therefore very diverse, as well as their success in completing these courses. The main research goal of the diploma thesis is to identify factors influencing the perception of the importance of statistics and the degree of acquisition of basic statistical principles and concepts among university students of geographic fields and to analyze the relationships between them, all this on the concrete example of the Statistics for Geographers course. Studijní plány řady vysokoškolských programů zahrnují kurz statistiky. Mnoho studentů, kteří se nezabývají přímo matematikou, nechápe, proč by tento kurz měli absolvovat. Většinou jim přijde velmi těžký a zbytečný vzhledem k tomu, který studijní program studují (a čím by se chtěli případně živit). Pro některé z nich se jedná jen o změť vzorců, které se musí naučit, aby kurz dokončili. Jiní jsou sice schopni se vzorci pracovat, nicméně nenahlédnou, "co je za vzorci". Minimum studentů nematematických oborů vidí ve statistice přínos a chápe její základní principy. Postoje studentů ke kurzům statistiky a k jejich zařazení do výuky na univerzitě jsou tedy stejně jako jejich úspěšnost při absolvování těchto kurzů velmi různorodé. Hlavním výzkumným cílem diplomové práce je identifikovat faktory ovlivňující vnímání významu statistiky a míru osvojení základních statistických principů a konceptů u vysokoškolských studentů geografických oborů a zanalyzovat vztahy mezi nimi, to vše na konkrétním příkladu kurzu Statistika pro geografy. K naplnění hlavního cíle je nutné mít k dispozici kvalitně sestavený a funkční didaktický test, který umožní hodnocení úspěšnosti, tedy úrovně získaných statistických dovedností.
