Sběratelská činnost Ing. Václava Butty.

Abstract

In recent years, art historical research has frequently focused on the development of collections and private collecting. One private collection that has not yet been thoroughly studied is the collection of Ing. Václav Butta. Although this collection is not widely known today, its owner, businessman Ing. Václav Butta, was one of the leading figures of interwar Czechoslovakia. He was an active member of the Association of Friends of the Modern Gallery and repeatedly contributed to the collections of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague, as well as to the National Gallery, founded after the war. This thesis examines the formation and fate of Butta's interwar collection in the context of the life events of its owners, who were affected by the political trials of the late 1950s. Butta's extensive collection, comprising around 200 works, featured not only decorative arts, but also medieval pieces, Flemish and Dutch paintings, works by artists from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, and paintings by interwar avant-garde artists. Attention is also devoted to an analysis of Butta's passion for collecting and to comparisons with other interwar collectors. Umělecko-historické bádání se v posledních letech často zabývalo vývojem sbírek a soukromým sběratelstvím. Jednou ze soukromých sbírek, která dosud nebyla zpracována je sbírka Ing. Václava Butty. Přestože tato sbírka není v současnosti příliš známá, její majitel podnikatel Ing. Václav Butta byl jednou z předních osobností meziválečného Československa. Byl aktivním členem Sdružení přátel Moderní galerie a opakovaně přispíval do sbírek Uměleckoprůmyslového muzea v Praze či do po druhé světové válce založené Národní galerie. Tato diplomová práce se zabývá vznikem a osudy Buttovy meziválečné sbírky na pozadí životních událostí jejích majitelů, kteří byli postiženi politickými procesy vedenými na konci 50. let. Buttova rozsáhlá sbírka čítající na dvě stě děl se vedle uměleckého řemesla pyšnila středověkými díly, vlámskou a holandskou malbou, díly umělců přelomu 19. a 20. století i obrazy autorů meziválečné avantgardy. Prostor je rovněž věnován rozboru Buttovy sběratelské vášně a komparacím se sbírkami dalších meziválečných sběratelů. Součástí práce je také soupis uměleckých děl, jež byla součástí Buttovy rozmanité kolekce.
