Machinic Desire, Hyperstition and the Accelerationist Apocalypse

Abstract

The aim of this thesis is to provide a detailed analysis of accelerationism, particularly as presented by the authors of CCRU, and to show through the texts of Nick Land how the reformulation of desire, understood in accelerationism as a fundamental metaphysical principle, shapes the concept of human existence among machines and, consequently, the concept of the apocalypse. The thesis argues that Land's inhumanism - closely linked to the question of accelerationist singularity - is the main characteristic feature of the narrowly understood accelerationist project. This project is largely shaped by three fundamental influences: Land's dialogue with transcendental metaphysics as presented by Immanuel Kant; the incorporation of science fiction into the philosophical project (particularly through the work of Mark Fisher); and the accelerationist reformulation of Prometheanism and the potential impact this reformulation has on the perceived discord between man and machine. As for the fundamental concept of desire, this work offers a genealogy of desire, tracing its roots in the works of Gilles Deleuze, Félix Guattari, Friedrich Nietzsche, and ultimately in Augustine's understanding of human will, as interpreted by Marshall Sahlins. Cílem této práce je poskytnout podrobnou analýzu akceleracionismu, zejména tak, jak jej prezentují autoři CCRU, a ukázat skrze texty Nicka Landa, jak přeformulování touhy, chápané v akceleracionismu jako základní metafyzický princip, formuje pojetí lidské existence mezi stroji a v důsledku toho i pojetí apokalypsy. Práce formuluje, že Landův inhumanismus - úzce spjatý s otázkou akceleracionistické singularity - tvoří hlavní charakteristický rys úzce chápaného akceleracionistického projektu. Tento projekt je do značné míry formován třemi základními vlivy: Landovým dialogem s transcendentální metafyzikou, jak ji představil Immanuel Kant; začleněním science fiction do filosofického projektu, a to zejména skrze text Marka Fishera; a akceleracionistickou reformulací prometeismu a potenciálním dopadem, který tato reformulace má na vnímaný nesoulad mezi člověkem a strojem. Pokud jde o fundamentální pojem touhy, tato práce nabízí genealogii touhy, přičemž sleduje jejich kořeny v dílech Gillese Deleuze, Félixe Guattariho, Friedricha Nietzscheho, a nakonec i v Augustinově chápání lidské vůle, jak jej interpretuje Marshall Sahlins.
