Obrazy pekla. Posmrtný život v italské předdantovské literatuře

Abstract

This thesis examines literary depictions of hell in the vernacular poetry of three northern Italian poets of the 13th century: Giacomino da Verona and his De Babilonia civitate infernali, Bonvesin da la Riva and his Scrittura nera, and Uguccione da Lodi and his Libro. The introductory chapter outlines the development of the concept of hell in the Christian tradition, with a particular emphasis on early Christian apocalypses and the medieval genre of otherworld visions. The core of the thesis consists of a stylistic and thematic analysis of selected poems, exploring how each poet approaches the theme of hell with regard to the stylistic devices employed and their function. Special attention is paid to the narrative position, which signi f i cantly shapes the portrayal of the infernal realm. The thesis also o f fers a comparison of the poetic strategies of the three authors, who-despite sharing a common theme and a moralizing intent-each develop a distinctive poetic voice. Diplomová práce zkoumá literární obrazy pekla ve vernakulární poezii tří severoitalských básníků ze 13. století, jimiž jsou Giacomino da Verona a jeho De Babilonia civitate infernali; Bonvesin da la Riva a Scrittura nera; Uguccione da Lodi a Libro. Úvodní kapitola nastiňuje vývoj představy pekla v křesťanské tradici s důrazem na raně křesťanské apokalypsy a středověký žánr vidění onoho světa. Těžiště práce tvoří stylistická a tematická analýza vybraných skladeb, která zkoumá, jakým způsobem jednotliví básníci přistupují k tématu pekla s ohledem na stylotvorné prostředky a jejich funkci. Zvláštní pozornost je věnována vypravěčské pozici, jež pojetí pekla zásadně ovlivňuje. Práce zároveň nabízí srovnání poetiky jednotlivých autorů, kteří navzdory sdílené tematice a moralizujícímu záměru rozvíjejí svébytný básnický výraz.
