In this work, we consider one of the fundamental problems in the theory of function approximation-the minimax approximation of a given continuous function by polynomials. The paper summarizes the basic theoretical properties of the solution to this problem, upon which the well-known Remez algorithm is based. Furthermore, following the results of Pachón and Trefethen, the work discusses and investigates its efficient numerical implementation in the MATLAB environ- ment using the Chebfun toolbox. The properties of the algorithm are demonstrated on selected examples using the "minimax" command, which in Chebfun provides a direct implementation of the Remez algorithm.
