Vliv implicitních představ o zdraví a nemoci na zdravotní chování: psychiatrizace problémů každodenního života

Abstract

The dissertation is a compilation of six studies exploring the effect of implicit beliefs about mental disorders on its prevalence and subjective experience and the cultural factors that shape these beliefs. The current state of research and the aims of the dissertation are briefly introduced in the opening chapter and elaborated in the overview of individual studies, each of which includes a summary of methods and findings of the given study. Following a brief introduction outlining the theoretical foundations, the first study examines the cognitive factors that shape human suffering through the belief in having a mental disorder. Through expert interviews, we arrive at a definition of the reification of mental illness, which we argue constitutes a cognitive engine of psychiatrization. The next chapter presents a review article on psychiatrization, which also serves as the theoretical discussion of psychiatrization that underlies the three subsequent empirical studies. The first of these is a vignette study demonstrating the dimensions of psychiatrization over the past two centuries, with the discussion section outlining its risks for both the experience and the prevalence of mental illness. Práce je kompilátem šesti studií pojednávajících o vlivu implicitních představ o duševních onemocněních na jejich prevalenci a prožívání, resp. kulturních faktorech, které tyto představy formují. Popis současného stavu poznání a cíle práce jsou stručně nastíněny v úvodní kapitole a posléze popsány v přehledu jednotlivých studií, jejichž popisy také zahrnují shrnutí použitých metod a výsledků. Po krátkém úvodu představujícím teoretická východiska práce následuje studie o kognitivních faktorech, které formují lidské utrpení v přesvědčení o postižení duševní poruchou: Analýzou expertních rozhovorů dospíváme k definici reifikace duševních onemocnění, která je podle našeho názoru kognitivním motorem psychiatrizace. Následuje shrnutí přehledové studie o psychiatrizaci, které zároveň slouží jako teoretické ukotvení konceptu psychiatrizace, z něhož vychází následující tři empirické studie. První z nich je vinětová studie demonstrující rozměry psychiatrizace v posledních dvou staletích, v jejíž diskusi zároveň shrnujeme rizika psychiatrizace pro prožívání a prevalenci duševních onemocnění. V dalších dvou studiích užíváme metody výpočetní lingvistiky ke kvantifikaci kulturních změn, které tvoří kulturní aspekt psychiatrizace.
