Román Nineteen Eighty-Four (1984) anglického spisovatele George Orwella v českém překladu

Abstract

Tato diplomová práce zkoumá první dva české překlady románu Nineteen Eighty-Four britského spisovatele George Orwella. Starší překlad od Evy Šimečkové vyšel v roce 1991, mladší překlad Petry Martínkové v roce 2015. Translatologická analýza vychází z deskriptivního translatologického modelu Gideona Touryho (1995); české překlady tedy nejprve prozkoumám jako původní české texty. Na základě srovnávací analýzy s originálem zhodnotím překlady z hlediska jejich přijatelnosti v domácí kultuře či adekvátnosti vůči zdrojovému materiálu. V druhé části analýzy se zaměřím na konkrétní aspekt textů, a tím jsou dialogy a vyjádření hovorovosti a mluvenosti v angličtině a češtině. Ve třetí části analýzy se zaměřím na etymologii vybraných newspeakových novotvarů a jejich převod v českých překladech. Průběžně budu různé aspekty překladů hodnotit z hlediska adekvátnosti vůči originálu či přijatelnosti vůči domácí kultuře. Na závěr práce všechny poznatky sumarizuji a na základě předchozí obsáhlé analýzy překlady zhodnotím z hlediska věrnosti originálu a funkce v domácí kultuře.

This thesis analyses the first two Czech translations of the novel Nineteen Eighty-Four by the British writer George Orwell. The older one by Eva Šimečková was published in 1991, the younger one by Petra Martínková in 2015. The translation analysis is based Gideon Toury's descriptive translation model (1995); I will first examine the Czech translations as original Czech texts. I will evaluate their position towards acceptability to the domestic culture or adequacy to the source material, based on a comparative analysis with the original novel. In the second part of the analysis, I will focus on a particular aspect of the texts, which are dialogues and the expression of colloquialism in English and Czech. In the third part of the analysis, I fill focus on the ethymology of selected Newspeak neologisms and their conversion in Czech translations. I will continuously evaluate various aspects of the translations in terms of their adequacy or acceptability. At the end of the thesis, I summarize all the findings and, based on the extensive analysis, evaluate the translations in terms of fidelity to the original novel and function in the domestic culture.
