This bachelorÕs thesis focuses on the position of women in the field of fictional directing within Czechoslovakia audiovisual production. The theoretical part introduces feminist concepts related to the status of women in filmmaking, the historical context of the Czech film industry from the 1980s to the present, and presents current data concerning the representation and working conditions of women directors both in the Czech Republic and worldwide. The thesis analyzes the situation of three generations of Czech female directors. The practical part is based on qualitative research and, through semi-structured interviews, presents the personal experiences of three Czech directors Ð Irena Pavl skov , Andrea Sedl kov , and Tereza Nvotov Ð each representing a different generation. The thesis focuses on the obstacles these directors faced, particularly at the beginning of their careers. It also explores the role of other professions, specifically screenwriting and documentary filmmaking, in facilitating their entry into fictional directing, investigating whether these fields served as stepping stones. The results of the thematic analysis reveal recurring patterns of professional barriers.
