This thesis focuses on the characterization of immune cells and their interactions with tumor tissue. It discusses whether these cells represent an effective tool in the elimination of tumor cells, or whether they paradoxically support tumor growth. The literature review also includes a discussion on the differences between tumor and immune cells in pediatric and adult patients. Additionally, the thesis explores the mechanisms by which tumors evade immune surveillance and subsequently describes the detection of cells within the tumor environment. The most recent method mentioned is spatial single-cell RNA sequencing, which enables both genetic and spatial mapping. In the final section, the reader is introduced to immunotherapeutic approaches, such as checkpoint inhibitor therapy or CAR-T cells, which represent promising methods for treating advanced stages of cancer. The aim is to provide fundamental knowledge and principles of immune control and tumor escape strategies Keywords: cancer, infiltration, the immune system, cancer therapy, PD-L1, checkpoint inhibitor, flow cytometry, RNA-Seq, single cell RNA-Seq
