Villiers de l'Isle-Adam: Kruté povídky v českých překladech

Abstract

Úkolem této diplomové práce bylo zejména analyzovat čtyři existující české překlady Krutých povídek Villierse de l'Isle-Adam, francouzského spisovatele druhé poloviny devatenáctého století, ale také zařadit tohoto autora do kulturně historického kontextu a charakterizovat jeho dílo. Práci jsme rozvrhli do tří kapitol. V první z nich se věnujeme spisovatelově osobnosti, jeho tvorbě a složité době, ve které žil a tvořil. Součástí této kapitoly je také zmínka o ohlasu, s jakým se jeho dílo, včetně Krutých povídek, setkalo v domácím i českém prostředí. V druhé kapitole se podrobněji zabýváme nejvýznamnější Villiersovou povídkovou sbírkou, Krutými povídkami. Nejprve podrobně charakterizujeme tématiku zařazených příběhů, děj a postavy, poté na základě excerpce provádíme analýzu Villiersova specifického stylu. Docházíme k závěru, že tento autor má v oblasti stylu mnoho společného s Charlesem Baudelairem, ale také Guy de Maupassant. Villiers se však nikdy nedočkal takového úspěchu, slávy a uznání. I v tomto ohledu by mohla být naše práce přínosem. Doufáme, že vzbudí nový zájem o tohoto výjimečného francouzského autora

The aim of this diploma thesis has been to analyse four existing Czech translations of Cruel Tales by Villiers de l'Isle-Adam, a French writer from the latter half of the nineteenth century, while also putting this author into a cultural and historical context, and so characterise his work. The thesis has been divided into three chapters. The first chapter is dedicated to the writer's personality, his work and the complex historical period during which he lived and wrote. The reverberations of his work, including Cruel Tales, both in his local and the Czech environment are also dealt with in this chapter. The second chapter closely examines Villiers' most important collection of short stories - Cruel Tales. We start by determining its themes, storylines and characters, then we continue to analyze Villiers' specific style in the selected excerpts. We finish with the conclusion that the author has a style similar to Charles Baudelaire or Guy de Maupassant, however, Villiers never knew such success and glory, nor received the acclaim of his peers, something we hope that our thesis will be a contribution towards in helping to raise new interest in this exceptional French writer.
