Komentovaný překlad vybraných povídek Elizabeth McCracken ze sbírky The Souvenir Museum (Ecco 2021): The Irish Wedding; Proof; Mistress Mickle All at Sea

Abstract

The thesis takes the form of an annotatedtranslationof a literarytext andconsists of three parts. The first part is an introductory study of the contemporary American author Elizabeth McCracken, her work and its reception in the source culture.It also includes a literaryanalysis of the selectedshort stories from the collection The Souvenir Museum (2021). The second and crucial part of the thesis offers the translationof the short stories,usingthe semantic translation method. The third part involves a translation-oriented text analysis and description of the translation process following Newmark's model. It also addresses the analysis of translation problems and their solutions, with a primary focus on maintaining the laconic and dialogical style and an appropriate level of colloquial language.

Tato diplomová práce má formu komentovaného překladu literárního textu a skládá se ze tří částí. První částí je úvodní studie o současné americké autorce Elizabeth McCracken, jejím díle a jeho recepci ve výchozí kultuře a literárněvědný rozbor vybraných povídek ze sbírky The Souvenir Museum (2021). Druhou, nejrozsáhlejší a nejvýznamnější částí je samotný překlad vybraných povídek. Metodou překladu je překlad sémantický. Třetí část potom tvoří překladatelská analýza a popis procesu překladu podle modelu P. Newmarka a dále analýza překladatelských problémů a popis jejich řešení. Nejstěžejnější je přitom zachování lakoničnosti, dialogičnosti a adekvátní úrovně hovorovosti stylu.
