Komentovaný překlad části románu The Good Shepherd od C. S. Foresetera s úvodní studií o autorovi, stylu románu a problémech překladu

Abstract

This thesis consists of three parts. The first part is the introductory study. It sums up available information about the life of C. S. Forester, briefly introduces his works and their Czech translations and finally it brings a detailed look on his novel The Good Shepherd, focusing on its plot, its historical context and its in-depth stylistic analysis, which focuses on the novel's typical stylistic features, its composition and used lexis. Second part of this thesis is a translation of a select part of said novel. The third part contains an analysis of translation problems and their solutions. These include the topic of biblical verses and allusions contained within the text, as well as the questions of terminology, facts or orders and set expressions in direct speech.

Tato diplomová práce se skládá ze tří částí. První část tvoří úvodní studie. Ta shrnuje dostupné informace o životě C. S. Forestera, stručně představuje jeho tvorbu a její české překlady a na závěr představuje detailní pohled na román The Good Shepherd, který se zabývá dějem románu, jeho zasazením do historického kontextu a jeho podrobnou stylistickou analýzou, v níž se zaměřujeme mimo jiné na typické znaky románu, principy jeho výstavby a použité lexikum. Druhá část této práce je překlad vybrané části zmiňovaného románu. Náplní třetí části je pak rozbor překladatelských problémů, které se vyskytly při tvorbě překladu, a jejich řešení. Mezi ně se řadí především problematika biblických veršů a aluzí obsažených v textu, dále pak například otázky terminologie, reálií či rozkazů a ustálených frází v přímé řeči.
