Abstract

Social management of intragender nudity Hana Tomková In this thesis, I examine women's behaviour in spaces with limited privacy, such as changing rooms and showers at sports venues or wellness facilities. In the theoretical part of the thesis I try to use the literature to highlight the issue of judging not only female nudity and the issue of increased female veiling in spaces where intragender nudity is expected. In this first, theoretical, part, I deal with the definition of shame and its possible presence in such spaces. I formulate the assumption that this shame, and by extension increased levels of veiling, may be due to the judgement of bodies based on the prevalence of medical and other professional discourses among the lay public. I use Foucaultian theories of judging the obedience and utility of the body to define such judgments in this thesis, where I attempt to point out that in our, modern, age, experts are not the only ones with the power to judge. In this thesis I have used qualitative research, specifically ethnographic and autoethnographic observations, supplemented by interviews. Hana Tomková V této práci se zabývám chováním žen v prostorách s omezeným soukromím, jako jsou například šatny a sprchy u sportovišť nebo wellness zařízení. V teoretické části práce se snažím pomocí odborné literatury poukázat na problematiku posuzování nejen ženské nahoty a na problematiku zvýšeného zahalování žen v prostorách, kde je intragenderová nahota očekávána. V této první, teoretické, části, se zabývám definicí studu a jeho možnou přítomností v takovýchto prostorách. Formuluji zde předpoklad, že tento stud, a na základě něj i zvýšená míra zahalování, může být způsobeno posuzováním těl na základě rozšíření medicinských a jiných odborných diskurzů mezi laickou veřejnost. K definici takového posuzování využívám v práci foucaultovskou teorii posuzování poslušnosti a užitečnosti těla, kdy se snažím poukázat na to, že v dnešní, moderní, době nejsou experti jedinými, kdo má moc posuzovat. V této práci jsem využila kvalitativní výzkum, konkrétně etnografická a autoetnografická pozorování, které jsem doplnila o rozhovory. Výzkum ukázal, že spíše než pocit posuzování hraje v těchto prostorách roli spíše zvyklost, zahalování na základě naučených stereotypů, snaha o zachování osobního prostoru a v neposlední řadě i osobní zodpovědnost, která je významnou...
