The theoretical part focuses on palliative and hospice care. It introduces the reader to the issues of dying and death. It explains the concept of need and presents the basic needs of patients in the terminal stage of life and their family members. It specifies the needs of nurses working in palliative care and introduces therapeutic communication between nursing staff and the patient. For the empirical part, a quantitative survey was chosen in the form of a semi-structured questionnaire. The research was conducted in the Lůžkový Hospic Chrudim. Vysvětluje poem potřeba a představuje základní potřeby pacientů v terminálním stádiu života a jejich rodinných příslušníků. Specifikuje potřeby zdravotních sester pracujících v oboru paliativní péče a seznamuje s terapeutickou komunikací mezi zdravotnickým personálem a pacientem. Pro empirickou část bylo zvoleno kvantitativní šetření formou polostrukturovaného dotazníku. Výzkum proběhl v Lůžkovém hospici Chrudim. Cílem práce je definovat potřeby, které považují rodinní příslušníci pacientů v terminálním stádiu života hospitalizovaných v hospici za nejdůležitější, posoudit, zda-li dochází k naplnění těchto potřeb a zhodnotit, co rodinným příslušníkům pomáhá zvládat psychickou zátěž v nelehké životní situaci.
