Abstract

Globalization and its Influence on Social Identities Author: Adam Duffek Thesis Title: Globalization and its Influence on Social Identities University: Charles University Prague Thesis Advisor: PhDr. Alemayehu Kumsa, Ph.D. Place and date: Prague, May 2023 Abstract This thesis analyzes the influence of globalization on social identities. The main thesis is that globalization influences social identities in twofold ways. Firstly, social identities are enormously strengthened by processes of globalization and they are becoming very complex, on the other hand, globalization can weaken and fragment these identities as well. This thesis uses the term identity in the context of sociology as social identities that are created in a social context and are creating social reality. Globalization is perceived as a significant influencer of the post-modern era. Globalization is multidimensional and influences many aspects of social reality and undoubtedly also social identities. Three main spheres of globalization, that are also the subject of analyses of this thesis, and have also primal influence on social identities are the economic, political, and cultural sphere. Hlavnou tézou je, že globalizácia pôsobí na sociálne identity dvojsečne. Takéto identity sú procesmi globalizácie nesmierne posilnené a stávajú sa veľmi komplexné, no zároveň procesy globalizácie môžu tieto identity oslabovať a fragmentovať. Táto práca používa pojem identít v kontexte sociológie ako identity sociálne, vznikajú v spoločenskom kontexte a tvoria sociálnu realitu. Globalizácia je považovaná za signifikantný činiteľ reality post-modernej doby. Je multidimenzionálna vplýva na nesmierne veľa aspektov sociálnej reality a nevyhnutne má aj veľký vplyv na sociálne identity. Tri hlavné sféry globalizácie, ktoré sú predmetom analýzy tejto práce a primárne ovplyvňujú sociálne identity sú ekonomická, politická a kultúrna. Každá sa podieľa na posilňovaní a oslabovaní sociálnych identít špecifickým spôsobom v rôznych kontextoch.
