Abstract

Title: Composition of Academic Texts and Development of Academic Writing Skills in Czech for Foreigners Author: PhDr. Romana Kratochvílová Department: Institute of Czech Language and Theory of Communication, Faculty of Arts, Charles University Supervisor: Mgr. Svatava Škodová, Ph.D. The presented thesis focuses on the composition of academic texts of non-native speakers of the Czech language in an effort to reveal the causes of their difficult comprehensibility, although they do not contain obvious lexical or grammatical errors. The main goal of this work is to clarify the specific features of the structure of academic texts of non-native speakers of the Czech language. In order to fulfil this goal, we performed a qualitative comparative analysis focusing on the theme-rheme structure of the sentence and its inclusion in the context of the paragraph and also on the thematic paragraph structure and paragraph groups. The observed phenomenon within the expression of the theme was the use of thematic progression types with regard to cohesive devices. Within the rhematic structure, we examined the expression of rheme and the use of connectives to express rhematic relationships. Svatava Škodová, Ph.D. Tato disertační práce je věnována výstavbě odborných textů nerodilých mluvčích českého jazyka ve snaze odhalit příčiny obtížné srozumitelnosti těchto textů, ačkoliv neobsahují zjevné lexikální nebo gramatické chyby. Hlavním cílem práce je objasnit specifické rysy výstavby odborných textů nerodilých mluvčích českého jazyka. Za účelem jeho naplnění jsme provedli kvalitativní komparativní analýzu zaměřenou na tematicko-rematickou strukturu výpovědi a její začlenění do kontextu odstavce a rovněž na tematickou výstavbu odstavce a odstavcové skupiny. Sledovanými jevy v rámci vyjádření a návaznosti tématu bylo užití tematických posloupností s ohledem na navazovací prostředky. V rámci rematické struktury jsme zkoumali vyjádření rématu a užití spojovacích prostředků pro vyjádření rematických vztahů. Na úrovni odstavce jsme sledovali uspořádaní tematických posloupností uvnitř odstavce a do určité míry i mezi odstavci v případě odstavcových skupin.
