Abstract

of the rigorous thesis The ritual dimension of midwives' activity: Norms for administering baptism to infants in danger of death in childbirth in english The thesis The Ritual Dimension of Midwives' Activity treats the tasks and functions of this profession in the history of its existence. However, it pays special attention to the spiritual, religious and ritual dimension of this activity. It examines the extent to which this dimension has been automatically associated with this activity throughout history and the extent to which it has been required by society. The civil and ecclesiastical hierarchy, especially since the Council of Trent, has issued various instructions offering a way to validly administer baptism to children in extraordinary circumstances where the death of a child is imminent. The thesis thus examines the historical significance and function of midwives, as well as the extent of the Church's concern for the formation of midwives, through an examination of the various instructions. Zvláštnu pozornosť však venuje duchovnému, náboženskému a rituálnemu rozmeru tejto činnosti. Skúma nakoľko bol tento rozmer v priebehu dejín s touto činnosťou automaticky spojený a nakoľko bol vyžadovaný spoločnosťou. Civilná i cirkevná vrchnosť predovšetkým od Tridentského koncilu vydávala rôzne inštrukcie, v ktorých ponúka spôsob ako platne udeľovať krst deťom v mimoriadnych okolnostiach, keď hrozí smrť dieťaťa. Práca teda skúma historický význam a funkciu pôrodných babíc, ako aj mieru starostlivosti Cirkvi o formáciu pôrodných asistentiek prostredníctvom skúmania jednotlivých inštrukcií.
