Hnutí za občanská práva v Severním Irsku a jeho zobrazení v místním dobovém tisku

Abstract

The presented bachelor thesis concerns the topic of the media image of the civil rights movement in Northern Ireland in the local period press. The method of qualitative analysis and concept of frames is being used for the examination of the articles dealing with the five chosen important events in the period of the movement in the years 1968 and 1969. The events consist of the Caledon protest, the first civil rights march, the civil rights march in Derry/Londonderry, the announcement of a reform five-point plan, and the march of the People's Democracy. The thesis aims to explore the differences in the media coverage of these events in the periodicals of various socio-political orientations. Therefore, the selected newspapers include the most read titles with different editorial policies - traditional unionist leaning The News Letter (Belfast Newsletter), nationalist The Irish News, and liberal unionist The Belfast Telegraph. The analysis takes into consideration the amount, length, and placement of the articles, which indicates the level of importance of the event for the periodical. Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá mediálním obrazem severoirského hnutí za občanská práva v místním dobovém tisku. Skrze metodu kvalitativní obsahové analýzy a s využitím konceptu rámování jsou v práci zkoumány články reagující na pět vybraných klíčových událostí hnutí v průběhu let 1968 až 1969. Konkrétně jsou jimi Caledonský protest, první pochod za občanská práva, pochod za práva v Derry/Londonderry, ohlášení reformního pětibodového plánu a pochod Lidové demokracie. Práce si klade za cíl odhalit rozdíly v mediálním pokrytí daných událostí v periodikách odlišného socio-politického zaměření. Tomu odpovídá výběr tří nejčtenějších severoirských deníků s odlišnou redakční ideologií - tradičně unionistický The News Letter (Belfast Newsletter), nacionalistické The Irish News a liberálně unionistický The Belfast Telegraph. V analýze je zohledňován počet, délka a umístění článků, které napovídá důležitost událostí pro periodika. Hlavní pozornost je však věnována stanovisku novin ke hnutí, a proto je využíván systém kategorií znázorňujících sympatie či antipatie k událostem. Dále jsou v práci definovány rámce používané periodiky k zobrazení událostí. Záměrem práce je tak poukázat na to, jak je skrze užití odlišných rámců a narativů formováno odlišné vnímání reality hnutí.
