Básník a překladatel Alfons Breska

Abstract

The work describes the personality and the work of the poet and translator A. Breska. It is the first monographic work about this author and it is based mainly on archive documents from Breska's personal collection in the literary archive Památník národního písemnictví in Prague. Further sources were Breska's manuscripts and typescripts, which are deposited in the Theatre Institute, Theatre Department of the National Museum in Prague and in the Archive of the National Theatre. Following these documents, the work recreates the biography of Alfons Breska and describes his own literary production as well as the translations in the literary context of the period. In a chronological way the work maps the publication of Breska's poetry books and translations, the publications in periodical journals and the reactions of the literary critics. Special attention is paid to the anthologies of German and Japanese poetry. The final part briefly outlines Breska's method of translation. An important part of the diploma thesis is so far the most complete bibliography of Breska's own and translated works, which includes his literary editions, journal entries, unpublished translations for theatres and responses to his work. Tato práce je první prací monografického charakteru o osobnosti a díle A. Bresky. Vychází z archivních materiálů uložených v básníkově pozůstalosti v Památníku národního písemnictví v Praze, zahrnuje i rukopisy a strojopisy, které se nacházejí v Divadelním ústavu, Divadelním oddělení Národního muzea v Praze a v archivu Národního divadla. Na základě těchto dokumentů práce rekonstruuje životopis Alfonse Bresky a popisuje jeho původní i překladatelskou tvorbu v literárním kontextu doby. Chronologicky mapuje knižní i časopisecké vydávání jeho básní, básnických sbírek a překladů a zahrnuje i soudobé reakce recenzentů. Podrobněji se věnuje antologiím německé a japonské poezie. V závěru nastiňuje Breskovu překladatelskou metodu. Součástí práce je i doposud nejúplnější bibliografie Breskovy původní i překladatelské tvorby, která kromě knižních vydání zahrnuje i časopisecké příspěvky, nepublikované překlady pro jednotlivá divadla a ohlasy na Breskovo dílo. Při jejím zpracování byla využita zejména retrospektivní Bibliografie časopiseckých článků Ústavu pro českou literaturu AV ČR a Česká národní bibliografie Národní knihovny v Praze. Získané údaje jsme doplnili poznatky vycházejícími z archivních dokumentů a vlastní excerpcí.
