Morální aspekty války v Tacitově díle.

Abstract

The Bachelor's thesis is concerned with Tacitus' view of Roman waging of war, evaluation of the impacts of Roman imperialism and his consideration of the actions of emperors and other important actors of the Roman Empire and their performance in war. Tacitus and his work, namely his two lesser monographies, will be briefly delineated in the introduction. Next, a description will be given of the Roman doctrine of bellum iustum. Calgalus' speech and his criticism of Roman politics of aggression will follow. Tacitus' description of barbarians and their wars will then be interpreted so that the final part of analysis would focus on Tacitus' evaluation of the Roman side and Roman figures associated with warfare. In the conclusion, the presented evidence will lead to an interpretation of Tacitus's view of the Roman military sector of his time and this interpretation will be confronted with the opinions of modern researchers. Bakalářská práce se zabývá Tacitovým pohledem na vedení římských válek, hodnocení dopadů římského imperialismu a jeho názor na činy císařů a dalších důležitých činitelů římské říše s přihlédnutím k jejich výkonům při vedení války. V úvodu bude stručně vylíčen Tacitus a jeho dílo a to především jeho dvě menší monografie. Dále bude podána základní charakteristika římské doktríny bellum iustum. Následně bude představena řeč barbara Calgaca a jeho kritika římské výbojné politiky. Poté bude interpretována Tacitova charakteristika barbarů a jejich válek, aby v poslední části analýzy byl pohled zaměřen na Tacitovo hodnocení římské strany a římských osobností spojených s válčením. V závěru bude na základě zjištěných faktů interpretován Tacitův pohled na militaristickou oblast tehdejšího Říma a tato interpretace bude konfrontována s některými názory moderních badatelů.
