Vikinské osídlení Britských ostrovů

Abstract

(anglicky): This master thesis deals with the Viking settlement of the British Isles, and author's goal was to compare to what extent do data from the three different sources of information - written sources, archaeology and toponymy - agree or disagree with each other. To do that, it was necessary to analyse the written sources and compile the overview of the current state of knowledge in archaeology and toponymy. The acquired data were then compared with each other and together they created as complex image of the Viking settlement of the British Isles as possible. The text is divided into four chapters, each of them deals with a different geographical area of the British Isles (the northern part of the British Isles, Ireland, Isle of Man and England). In each of these chapters the above-mentioned procedures are applied and in the concluding chapter the main outcomes of the two major research questions are summarized. Also the things that are common or different between these geographical areas are summed up in the last chapter. In general, the author tries to propose an overview image of currently available knowledge about this aspect of the Viking Age history.

(česky): Diplomová práce se zabývá vikinským osídlením Britských ostrovů, přičemž autorovým cílem bylo porovnat do jaké míry se shodují, nebo vyvrací poznatky vzešlé ze tří různých informačních zdrojů - písemných pramenů, archeologie a toponymie. K tomu bylo potřeba písemné prameny zanalyzovat a sestavit přehled současného stavu bádání v oblastech archeologie a toponymie. Následně pak byla získaná data vzájemně porovnána a byl vytvořen co nejkomplexnější obraz vikinského osídlení v oblasti Britských ostrovů. Text je rozdělen na čtyři kapitoly, z nichž každá se zabývá jednou konkrétní geografickou oblastí v rámci Britských ostrovů (sever Britských ostrovů, Irsko, ostrov Man a Anglie). V rámci jednotlivých kapitol jsou pak pokaždé aplikovány výše uvedené postupy a na závěr jsou zhodnoceny hlavní výstupy plynoucí z vypracování dvou stěžejních výzkumných otázek. Zároveň závěr předkládá shrnutí věcí společných a odlišných v těchto oblastech. Celkově se tak práce snaží vytvořit souhrn v současnosti dostupných poznatků o tomto aspektu dějin vikinského období a vnést do něj nový pohled.
