This diploma thesis examines the nature of Czech TV news about the European Union. The EU is a typical example of a remote, abstract entity, which most of the public does not experience directly, and where the media becomes the primary source of information, as well as interpretation of European affairs. According to public opinion polls, TV news is the main source of information on the European Union for most Europeans. The goal of the thesis is to offer a comparison of the European news coverage of the three largest Czech TV stations, namely Česká televize, Nova and Prima. The quantitative content analysis examines the total volume of broadcasting about the European Union, its thematic structure, tone, present actors and institutions, the qualitative framing analysis reveals the frames present in the news. The results are then situated into the context of current knowledge in the field.
