Příběh jednoho zmizelého světa. Lékárna U bílého jednorožce v Praze, její osud a osud jejích majitelů (nejen) ve dvacátém století

Abstract

Osud známé pražského lékárny „U bílého jednorožce“ na Staroměstském náměstí v mnohém odráží komplikované dějiny Čech a vůbec střední Evropy v první polovině 20. století. Lékárna existovala již od počátku 15. století a definitivně zanikla až po zásahu německým granátem během květnového pražského povstání v roce 1945. Lékárnu proslavil její majitel PhMr. Max Fanta (majitel v letech 1884–1925) a jeho rodina. Sám Max Fanta byl význačný lékárník (zejména v Německu se proslavil jako vynálezce lékárenské misky z melaminové pryskyřice, tzv. Fantaschale), ale mnohem více vešla do podvědomí pražské společnosti jeho žena Berta, rozená Sohrová, která pocházela z bohaté židovské rodiny z Libochovic. Berta Fantová pořádala v salónu nad lékárnou před rokem 1914 společensko-umělecké večírky, jehož se zúčastnili Franz Kafka, Max Brod, Hugo Bergmann nebo Albert Einstein (tzv. Fantakreis). Manželka Maxe Fanty se zajímala o tehdy populární theosofie a rovněž byla v osobním kontaktu se zakladatelem antroposofie, Rudolfem Steinerem. Jejich dcera, Elsa Fantová, byla první ženou, která v Čechách vystudovala farmacii (1908). Provdala se za význačného filosofa a sionistu Hugo Bergmanna, s kterým odjela v roce 1919 do Jeruzaléma. Berta Fantová chtěla odjet se svojí dcerou a její rodinou, ale zemřela na konci roku 1918. Manželé Bergmanovi se rozvedli ve třicátých letech, ale žili nadále v britské mandátní Palestině. Jejich syn Martin byl uznávaným psychoanalytikem, jejich dcera Eva vystudovala medicínu a stala se psychiatričkou a syn Uriel pracoval se svojí manželkou pro OSN. Manželé Fantovi měli ještě syna Ottu, který před nacismem uprchl do Anglie, kde v roce 1940. Vdova po něm, Johanna, rozená Bobaschová, která byla v letech 1945–1955 důvěrnou přítelkyní Alberta Einsteina v Princetonu.

The fate of the famous pharmacy “At the White Unicorn” at the Old Town Square in Prague reflectsin some ways the complicated history of Bohemia and Central Europe in the first half of the20th century. The pharmacy has existed since the beginning of the 15th century and was definitelydestroyed after the strike of the German grenade during the Prague uprising in May 1945. PhMr.Max Fanta, owner of the pharmacy in 1884–1925 and his family, made pharmacy “At the White Unicorn”famous. Max Fanta himself was a prominent pharmacist (he became famous, especially inGermany, as the inventor of a pharmaceutical small bowl from melamine resin, the so called Fantaschale),but his wife, Berta, born Sohrova, who came from the rich Jewish family from Libochovice,was still more famous in the Prague society. Berta Fantová organized a sociable and artisticparty in the their salon above the pharmacy before 1914, attended by Franz Kafka, Max Brod, HugoBergmann or Albert Einstein (the so called Fantakreis). Max Fanta’s wife was interested in thosedays the popular theosophy at that time, and was also in personal contact with the founder of Anthroposophy,Rudolf Steiner. Their daughter, Elsa Fantova, was the first woman, who finished thestudy of pharmacy in the Czech lands (1908). She married prominent philosopher and Zionist HugoBergmann. Husbands with their children moved to Jerusalem in 1919. Berta Fantova wanted to leavewith her daughter and her family, but she died at the end of 1918. The husbands divorced in the1930s, but constantly both lived in the Mandatory Palestine (and late in the State of Israel). Theirson Martin was a recognized psychoanalyst in the New York, their daughter Eva finished medicine’sstudies and became a psychiatrist, and his son Uriel worked with his wife for the UN. HusbandFanta had a son Otto too. Otto Fanta escaped from Prague before Nazism to England, where died in1940. The widow after him, Johanna (born Bobasch), was an intimate friend of Albert Einstein inPrinceton in the years 1945–1955.
