The translation and stylistic analysis of several chapters of the novel The Shameful Suicide of Winston Churchill by Peter Millar

Abstract

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá problematickými jevy, které se mohou objevit při překladu krásné literatury z anglického do českého jazyka. Jako základ pro analýzu posloužil román The Shameful Suicide of Winston Churchill od Petera Millara. První část práce sestává z překladu dvou pasáží z výše jmenovaného románu. Druhá část se věnuje analýze problémů, které se vyskytly při překladu, konečná řešení těchto problémů jsou zde podrobněji okomentována a zdůvodněna.

This bachelor thesis is concerned with problematic issues that can occur during a translation of fiction from English to Czech. As a base for the analysis, Peter Millar's novel The Shameful Suicide of Winston Churchill was used. In the first part of the thesis, two extracts from the novel were translated. In the second part, various problems that occurred during the translation are analysed, final solutions are commented on and justified.
