Therapeutic alliance, working alliance, therapeutic relationship, WAI questionnaire, therapeutic alliance in physiotherapy, gender in physiotherapy, female effectÚvod: Terapeutická aliance patří mezi faktory, které mohou významně ovlivnit výsledky fyzioterapie.
Background: The therapeutic alliance is among the factors that can significantly influence physiotherapy outcomes. Although the body of evidence supporting this assumption is growing, its role has not yet been sufficiently investigated in physiotherapy. In psychotherapy, the literature describes the so-called female therapist effect, an assumption that female therapists may more often form a stronger alliance and achieve better clinical outcomes. However, this effect has not yet been examined in the context of physiotherapy. More broadly, physiotherapy and rehabilitation research lacks a sufficient number of studies that systematically evaluate the impact of gender on the course and outcomes of therapy. Objective: This thesis aims to examine whether a stronger therapeutic alliance is associated with better physiotherapy outcomes in patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain. It also seeks to determine whether, in the context of physiotherapy-similarly to psychotherapy-the female therapist effect can be considered. That is, whether the therapist's gender is related to the strength of the therapeutic alliance and treatment outcomes. Methods: The research was conducted as a multicentre longitudinal observational study carried out between October 2025 and March 2026 at several sites across the Czech...
