Epocha Emila Zátopka. Atletická hvězda v systému vrcholového sportu Československa (1948-1956)

Abstract

This dissertation focuses on a comprehensive analysis of the sporting career of Emil Zátopek within the context of the political, social, and institutional transformations of Czechoslovakia between 1948 and 1956. Employing a three-layer conceptual framework, it interconnects the level of organizational structures of elite sport, the media construction of public image, and the biographical perspective of an individual athlete. The aim of the research is to capture the process of creating and sustaining a sports star under the conditions of a totalitarian regime, including the ideological and propagandistic use of his persona. The analysis draws on a wide range of sources-archival documents, periodicals, and scholarly literature-and is underpinned by a methodological combination of historical, biographical, and discourse analysis. The study thus contributes not only to a deeper understanding of the functioning of Czechoslovak sport in the examined period but also to the reflection on the phenomenon of sporting heroism as a tool of political communication and cultural representation. Disertační práce se zaměřuje na komplexní analýzu sportovní kariéry Emila Zátopka v kontextu politických, společenských a institucionálních proměn Československa v letech 1948-1956. Prostřednictvím trojvrstevného konceptuálního rámce propojuje rovinu organizačních struktur vrcholového sportu, mediální konstrukce veřejného obrazu a biografickou perspektivu konkrétního sportovce. Cílem výzkumu je postihnout proces vzniku a udržování sportovní hvězdy v podmínkách totalitního režimu, včetně ideologického a propagandistického využití její osobnosti. Analýza vychází z široké palety pramenů - archivních dokumentů, periodik a odborné literatury - a je podložena metodologickou kombinací historické, biografické a diskurzivní analýzy. Práce tak přispívá nejen k hlubšímu porozumění mechanismům fungování československého sportu ve sledovaném období, ale i k reflexi fenoménu sportovního hrdinství jako nástroje politické komunikace a kulturní reprezentace.
