Preoperative anxiety is a common issue in children, negatively affecting both the surgical procedure and subsequent recovery. In current pediatric practice, there is an increasing emphasis on non-pharmacological methods of anxiety relief and the application of the family-centered care approach. The primary objective of this thesis is to understand the subjective experiences of parents who use non-pharmacological methods to manage their children's preoperative anxiety within the context of family-centered care. The study explores parents' motivations for choosing specific methods, their emotional experiences, and identifies the barriers families encounter in the hospital environment. The empirical part of the study was conducted using a qualitative research design. Semi-structured individual interviews were carried out with parents of children who underwent elective surgical procedures under general anesthesia. The data were analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis. The analysis revealed five main themes. It was found that parents act almost exclusively intuitively when calming their child, as they lack methodological guidance from healthcare staff. They primarily choose physical contact or, in the case of older children, support their child's escape into a virtual world. Relaxation techniques are...
