Abstract

The impact of low birth weight and prematurity on kidney function in children Abstract This thesis addresses the association between low birth weight and the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases and chronic kidney disease. The main objectives of the thesis are to analyse the associations between prenatal, perinatal, and postnatal factors in children with low birth weight and renal parameters, to describe the prevalence of masked hypertension, non-dipping, and other cardiovascular risk factors in these children, and to evaluate the re- lationship between low birth weight and the course of nephrotic syndrome. The introductory section presents readers with basic information on the links between low birth weight and the development of chronic kidney and cardiovascular diseases. The results section presents all confirmed associations and the prevalence of individual factors. The data clearly demon- strate the complexity of this issue and suggest that children with low birth weight represent a high-risk group that requires special attention due to the risk of developing serious health complications. In the discussion, the results of the thesis are placed in the context of previous studies. The benefits and limitations of the thesis are discussed. Vliv nízké porodní hmotnosti a prematurity na funkci ledvin u dětí Abstrakt Tato disertační práce se zabývá asociacemi mezi nízkou porodní hmotností a rizikem rozvoje kardiovaskulárních onemocnění a chronického onemocnění ledvin. Hlavními cíli práce jsou analyzovat asociace mezi prenatálními, perinatálními a postnatálními faktory u dětí s nízkou porodní hmotností a renálními parametry, dále popsat prevalenci maskované hypertenze, non-dippingu a dalších rizikových faktorů kardiovaskulárních onemocnění u těchto dětí a v neposlední řadě zhodnotit vztah mezi nízkou porodní hmotností a průběhem nefrotického syndromu. V úvodní teoretické části jsou čtenáři představeny základní informace o souvis- lostech nízké porodní hmotnosti a vzniku chronického onemocnění ledvin a kardiovaskulár- ních onemocnění. Ve výsledcích jsou prezentovány všechny prokázané asociace a preva- lence jednotlivých faktorů. Data jasně ukazují na komplexitu dané problematiky a naznačují, že děti s nízkou porodní hmotností představují rizikovou skupinu, které je zapotřebí věnovat speciální pozornost s ohledem na rizika vzniku závažných zdravotních komplikací.
