The main objective is to show on a number of case studies the resolution of catheter- related infections and the financial strain it puts on a cardiosurgical unit of university hospital Královské Vinohrady. A specific goal set for this thesis includes calculating the cost for preventive measures. The practical section is then supported by a theoretical summary of current scientific knowledge on the topic of prevention of catheter-related infections.
