| dc.description | The sites of Abusir and Abu Ghurab, with their uniquemingling of funerary and religious architecture, and theincredible heritage of written papyrus documents, representa crucial area for the understanding of the historical,architectural and religious evolution of Old KingdomEgypt. However, many of their topographical and archaeologicalfeatures remain unclear, especially as regards theidentification of the four missing sun temples, which aredocumented in textual sources of the time but have beennever located. The present article wishes to further ourknowledge of the sacred landscape of the area during theFifth Dynasty thanks to the combined analysis of archaeologicaldata, the historical cartography of the area, andnew remote sensed imagery. | |
