This habitation thesis exploits the richness of the corporate setting to address several interrelated questions concerning the impact of non-financial aspects on managerial behavior and on economic outcomes in these firms. It includes 8 chapters. Out of these, 7 chapters are published in international economic and finance journals with an impact factor including the Journal of Economic Surveys (Web of Science Journal Impact Factor of 2019 (IF): 3.126), the Journal of Banking and Finance (IF: 2.269), the European Accounting Review (Impact Factor, IF: 1.855), the European Economic Review (IF: 1.744), the Journal of Contemporary Accounting and Economics (IF: 1.690), Journal of Business Finance and Accounting (IF: 1.473). In addition, the habilitation thesis includes 1 manuscript that has been presented at two research seminars at the York University, Toronto, Canada, and the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (Humboldt University of Berlin), Berlin, Germany and that is ready to be submitted to a research journal.
