| uk.abstract.en | The main purpose of this paper is to present the post-emigration life and work of the Russianborn writer Nikolai Terlecky from the perspective of newly discovered archival materials. The article is divided into two parts. The first, biographical part is based on a brief introduction to Terleckyʼs dramatic life, and it shows how the writer’s experiences and the people and circumstances he encountered influenced his literary path and work. It also examines the potential reflection of these influences in the thematic content of his prose, as well as their impact on his publishing opportunities. The second part of the paper focuses on the interpretation of the author’s later work, emphasising selected aspects of his works that could be classified as science fiction with philosophical, speculative, and critical elements. The interpretative part focuses on the question of free will, which is frequently discussed in these works and has become one of the most common themes in the authorʼs prose. The author’s use of biblical themes is also examined, as well as predictions of possible future developments in the world. Both parts are tied together by the references to the correspondence between Terlecky and Jan Vladislav, who played a crucial role in his life, not only as a friend, but also as an important link to the literary community (in exile and at home). | cs |
